Three questions. I read every request myself and email you to arrange a time.
- You tell me your name, your email and the event you're aiming at.
- I email you to find a time for a 20-minute call.
- We talk about your race and your training. If coaching fits, I'll explain how we'd start. If it doesn't, I'll say so.
Nothing is charged until we have agreed a start date and you have your written agreement.

Built for the demands of your ultra.
Your first ultra
You've committed to something bigger than a marathon and want a structured approach that fits your current fitness, available time and event.
Stepping up in distance
You've run long races before, but the demands of a longer event call for more specific preparation.
Running strong after 40
You're experienced enough to understand that training is only useful when you can consistently absorb it, recover and keep progressing.
These are examples, not separate packages. Everyone gets the same personal coaching, built around their own starting point.
More than a training plan.
I use my own coaching app to keep your runs, heart rate and feedback in one place, so I can see how you're responding. It doesn't coach you. I do.
- Running planned around your event and your week
- Sessions built around your race, your days and the time you actually have.
- Strength in the training week
- Strength sessions placed next to your harder running days, so the easy days stay easy.
- Fuelling you've practised
- Carbohydrate, fluid and sodium rehearsed on long runs until your stomach copes on race day.
- Recovery and training load
- I look at your sleep, fatigue and how you say you feel, and ease the load when you need it.
- Preparation for your race's ground and conditions
- Climbing, descending, a loaded pack, heat or night running, where your race asks for them.
- A review of every completed week
- I read what you did and how it went, and write you a short assessment.
- Changes when training or life changes
- A missed week, a niggle or a busy month at work: I change the plan to fit.
- Direct contact with me
- Messages answered within one UK working day and a call at least every fortnight.
I provide running coaching, not injury diagnosis or rehabilitation. If pain or a medical concern needs assessment, I will ask you to seek advice from an appropriate qualified professional before we continue the relevant training.

Your coach, not just your training plan.
I've been running since I was ten. I raced for my county as a sprinter, then ran marathons, including New York and London, then ultras. In 2003 I finished the Marathon des Sables, a multi-day race across the Sahara.
In April 2027, aged 52, I'm going back, and I'm preparing with the same approach I use with my athletes.
I read your training, write your weekly review and make every change to your plan myself. Nothing is delegated.

I've known Darren for over 20 years and understand how much running means to him. He brings commitment, personal experience and a thoughtful approach to preparation. I'm pleased to see him using The Rory Coleman Method® to help runners work towards their own ultra goals.
Rory doesn't coach you or write your plan. I do.
How it works
We have a conversation.
You explain your event, current training, experience and goals.
We build your approach.
If coaching is appropriate, I develop a programme based on your starting point and the demands ahead.
We adjust as you progress.
I review your training regularly and change the running, strength, fuelling and recovery when you need it.
Inside my own training
How I read a week, using mine.
This is my own training for the Marathon des Sables in 2027, not an athlete's. It shows the kind of decision I make each week. Week ending 27 September 2026.
- What the data showed
- I ran 27 of my 28 planned miles. But all four of my easy runs went over the heart-rate ceiling I set for easy days, for the third week running, with 45 to 61% of each run above it. My long run held up well: pace and heart rate stayed closely matched to the end.
- What it couldn't tell me
- Why. Heart rate runs high for lots of reasons: going too fast, heat, poor sleep, stress. My watch shows the pattern, not the cause.
- What I decided
- I kept the next week's mileage the same instead of adding more, slowed my easy runs to well under the ceiling, and took walk breaks on flat ground where I needed to.
- What happened next
- The following week two of four easy runs went over, down from four. Better, not fixed, so I held the mileage again.
Figures from my own records in the coaching app, 28 September and 5 October 2026. The app organises the data and drafts a summary. I read it and make the call.

How we keep in touch
A call at least every fortnight, a written review of each completed week, and messages answered within one UK working day.
The first call
Free, about 20 minutes. We talk about your race, your training and whether coaching fits. You won't leave with a training plan, and you're under no obligation.
The terms in full
These terms go into the written coaching agreement you receive before anything is charged.
Payments & the initial three-month block
Three monthly payments of £295, £885 in total, on dates written into your agreement before anything is charged. No setup fee, and nothing charged for a fourth month inside the initial block.
Three months is the initial coaching commitment. It is not a promise to get you to an ultra in three months: which event, and how long the build takes, depend on where you start and how you progress.
30-day mutual fit
During the first 30 coaching days, counted from your agreed start date, either of us can end the remaining commitment. You give notice by email to coach@darrenware.com. Coaching already delivered is not refunded automatically. This is separate from your statutory cancellation rights, which your agreement sets out.
Your start date & ongoing coaching
There is no shared start date or deadline. Each athlete's start date, onboarding and payment dates are agreed one to one, and written down before payment.
Coaching beyond the first block continues only under an active coaching agreement.
Questions before you get in touch
Do I need to have completed an ultra before?
No. A first ultra is a good reason to get coaching. What matters is where your running is now and how long you have before the event. If the time is too short for your race, I'll say so on the call.
Can coaching work around my job and family?
Yes. I plan your week around the days and hours you actually have, and change it when work or family gets in the way. Missed training is never made up with a bigger week.
Do I need a Garmin or other specific device?
A Garmin or Coros watch synced through Intervals.icu works best, because I can see your heart rate on easy runs. If you don't have one, you can add runs by hand.
What happens if I miss sessions or pick up an injury?
Missed sessions: the plan adapts, and nothing is repaid with a bigger week. Pain or injury: tell me and I adjust the training I'm responsible for. I provide running coaching, not injury diagnosis or rehabilitation. If pain or a medical concern needs assessment, I will ask you to seek advice from an appropriate qualified professional before we continue the relevant training.
How much direct contact will I have with Darren?
You work with me directly throughout. A call at least every fortnight, a written review of every completed week, and messages answered within one UK working day (weekends, bank holidays and any absence I have told you about in advance aside).
What happens during the introductory call?
We talk for about 20 minutes. You tell me about your race, your current training and how previous races have gone. I tell you honestly whether I think I can help and how coaching would work. It's free and there's no obligation.
How much does coaching cost and what is the commitment?
£295 a calendar month for an initial three-month block: £885 in total if you complete it, paid as three monthly payments. During the first 30 coaching days, counted from your agreed start date, either of us can end the remaining commitment. Nothing is charged until we have agreed your start date and you have the written agreement.
Will Rory Coleman coach me?
No. I'm your coach. I'm an official licensed coach of The Rory Coleman Method®, and every coaching decision about you is mine.
Do you coach ultra runners remotely?
Yes. All coaching is remote. Your watch syncs through Intervals.icu, you check in from your phone, and we talk on a call at least every fortnight. I am based in the UK and most of my athletes are too.
Does AI or software write my training plan?
No. My coaching app organises your training data and can suggest options, but I write and approve every change before you see it. Nothing changes in your training without my decision.
Let's talk about your next ultra.
Tell me what you're preparing for and where your training is now. We can discuss whether working together makes sense.
